Nice to meet you!
I'm Tomo.
About me
I’m a self-taught Product Designer who’s passionate about designing digital experiences that leave a positive impact on people and the society.

I'm a quick-learning generalists who can master whatever challenges that are thrown at me. After getting inspired by work life balance in Sweden, I packed up my bags and moved my life to Canada.
I thrive when I’m learning new things, whether that’s discovering hidden gems, taking programming courses, or backpacking to not so major countries. In my spare time, you can find me at the gym, meditating, finding aesthetic modern houses on Pinterest, taking polaroid photos for my journals, or listening to old school hip hop music. These activities fill my creative soul and give me the intuition for my designs.
The perfect workplace for me is somewhere that challenges me every day, values my curiosity, passion and desire to learn, and am surrounded by people who are excited to take on new challenges.
Design Philosophy
Intersection of design, business goals and technology.
Whether I was in a UI/UX design, marketing or business development role, I’ve always considered myself as a bridge that connects people and technology, and creates a better understanding between them. I see product design as a problem solving activity, and it not only requires visual aesthetics, but also a deep understanding of human behavior, as well as an interface that functions well. A great product designer means you are a good listener, communicator, have empathy, and are able to make data driven decisions, not based on feelings. I believe successful product designs come from understanding users’ behaviours, anticipating and emphasizing with what the users want, and being able to think from their perspective, as well as having a good understanding of the technology and the business goal.
While being an UI designer, I learned to make the flaw clear and simple. Being an UX designer taught me good UX educates users how the app works without making them think, and help users get to their goal as quickly as possible. Successful product design is all about finding the perfect spot where users’ needs and business objectives meet, while giving them a flawless and pleasant user experience. My unique background and experiences made me develop an ability to bring outside of the box thinking and creative problem-solving approach, and solve problems from the ideation stage to the pixel-perfect designs. And I use that strength to help create apps that carry experience loops of delight, surprises and emotion.
My Background Story
Found my passion.
As far back as I can remember, I’ve always been passionate about creativity and eager to create something out of nothing. In high school, I used to make robots and compete at robot contests in Japan!
Although I studied Entrepreneurship and Business Innovation at universities, I learned to design on my own out of curiosity, and started learning coding (Swift) recently so that I can create my own apps in the future!
This curiosity helped me to keep up to date with the newest design trends and I’m still learning every single day to ensure I can deliver the most modern and effective design crafts. I believe in working hard and there’s always room for improvements!
Why UI/UX Design?
I want to make people happy by making things simple.
As technology develops, the world is getting more and more complex. When people hear the word “technology”, the majority of people think it’s something “cold” and “difficult” to understand.
As a designer, I aspire to make these complex technology simple yet delightful and add joy to everyday lives.
The fascinating thing about UI/UX design is that it allows us to connect with people by showing care and paying attention to users through design, and a tiny decision we make as a designer can make a big impact on them and their behaviours either consciously or unconsciously.
This is why I love creating thoughtful, meaningful and polished design crafts, which can emphasize with users and leave a positive impact on them!
